What is it about a cold, grey, drizzly Saturday?
Saturday lacked energy. Megan had a sleep-over last night with her good bud, Cameron. Katie, as only a pre-teen could be wont to do, stayed home all day camped out on the sofa watching hour after hour of Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel, with Kandy companionably reading nearby. Me? Well, I did drag myself over to the gym for a work-out. Then I hunkered down to cleaning up my home office.
"Yuck."I didn't get too far in organization. How could I? The Internet was calling to me. PING! My email notifier kept letting me know that there was someone who wanted my attention. DOODLE-LOODLE! The instant messenger ripples attention.
"Ack! No, no."I must concentrate. Must not react. Must clean. Organize. Sort.
"Ooooh, look at that new Mahjongg game. I like Mahjongg."And so it goes. It is no use. I am weak and somehow let the Internet draw me into ebb and flow of circuit and server, info-tidbit and gossip. It compels me. I have become One with the Internet.
So, what is it about the Internet? Here's my list:
- Instant gratification - You want it? You got it.
- Any subject, any time, as much of it as you want (forget about need)
- Shopping at my fingertips (kinda like opening the fridge and peeking under the tupperware lid)
- International - Connections with people world-wide - email and blogs
- Viewpoints - as many as you could ever hope for
- Dictionary
- Encyclopedia - or should I say wikipedia?
- More, but who's counting?
What is it about... weeds? Don't need no stinkin' weeds!
