A Day on the Bay

It has been about five years since we had been to the Cliff House in San Francisco. We usually save a visit to the Cliff House for very special occassions, like an anniversary or special birthday. We enjoy the Sunday champagne brunch where the champagne flows freely and the food is wonderful. I especially fell in love with the chocolate swirled cheesecake - it was to die for! (And, I'm not really a lover of cheesecake, either.)

It had been so long since our last visit in fact, that we completely missed the total renovation of the building. Even the outside of the building has changed. It must have been quite a job... working on the cliffs and all. Before it had had a rustic, if creaky quality about it. Now, it has a more elegant and open feel, although I'm not sure the outside appeals to me. But, it is in keeping with the art deco interior.

Inside, you feel as if you could just soar over the waves, as pelicans and gulls fly by.

Another reason we enjoy going to the Cliff House is that we get to see and hear our friend and harpist, Vicki Demartini, who also played at our wedding. She plays every Sunday for the champagne brunch. What more could you ask for?

It was such a beautiful day, we walked around and took a few more pictures. Here, looking to the north from the Cliff House is a view of the ocean and what is left of the Sutro Baths, contemporary to the 1920's, I believe.

And, to the south there is a very large beach where sand building competitions will be every weekend, once the weather warms up a bit. Someone wishing everyone a "Good Morning" was there instead:

And where we stood, just below us, were the vibrant colors of the California Poppies:

It was so beautiful, we headed over the Golden Gate Bridge.

Lastly, here is a look at San Francisco gazing toward Pier 39, and the SF Bay Bridge.
